Data governance

Data Governance should be thought at integration stage and not as afterthought end of pipe. Irrespective of how good the visualization is, there is no value to any presentation unless the audience trusts the data. Just getting the data right is not good enough. We also have to prove that it is right. This is where data governance comes into play defining the source of data, its lineage and calculation standard for the metrics. Once this is done, we don’t have to worry about which Sales amount is right - ‘Finance Sales’ or ‘Marketing Sales’. Role based access for regions or access to specific information on a need to know basis is business critical. Other regulatory aspects like record of PII (personally identifiable information), its lifecycle and access to it have to be considered to prevent compliance and brand impact.
