Background:
Large Insurance company had a lot of data in their source systems like Policy Asia. There were 100s of reports on top of this data based on cubes. There were almost 100 different Channels and diverse types of datasets like login, issuance, WFP, WRP, etc.
Challenge:
Only nightly refresh was possible as traditional BI took around 3-4 hours to fetch policy level data loading source system and affecting its performance when used during office hours.
Ensuring that nearly 100 flat files holding huge data are all loaded and data is correct and ready for analysis
Pre structured reports could not answer management queries intuitively for enabling analysis.
Solution:
Using Qlik, we configured the incremental load to fetch just the changed records and ensured that all the calculations still stayed valid
Leveraged Qlik multi tier architecture to reduce the recurring connection to the database thus reducing load on Source system
Enabled role based data access and showed just the relevant data to users
Outcome:
More reliable data architecture as waiting for the data to load and the anxiety around load failure was eliminated.
Management could analyze the data in the way they like at the speed of thought
Lower load on Source system meant multiple refreshes during day were possible giving more visibility without affecting customer experience on source system.
Governance as well as the learning curve for new hires and ease of use was better with data separation
